Behind the scenes…Lust in London

I first wrote Lust in London in 2010, after a friend of mine was going on a trip to London. I told him, half-jokingly at the time, that wouldn’t it be fun if he had an adventure if he were over there.

So, I wrote about it in 2010 and released it, and have since gotten it back from its original publisher. It is being ‘tweaked’ right now, but I have a swanky cover for it, courtesy of Winterheart Design.

Look for this to be out by summertime 🙂

I’m posting again from This Time Around (which is a rework of Refugees which is the sequel to For the Heart of Phillip). Drama was everywhere in the first book; but it’s been tamed in this volume, which follows Robert and David’s journey after things didn’t go as planned in book one.

What is Rainbow Snippets? It’s a group of LGBT+ authors who post six sentences (or more) from a current WIP, published work or even something they’ve read that they want to rave about. This Time Around 1

To set the stage: (spoiler alert)!!! In the first book, Robert and Phillip break up and David and Andrew break up. This is the start of Chapter 3

David’s first few evenings at the clinic were quiet, except for the first one. He was unpacking his office when he ran across a picture of himself and Andy. He glared at it and gritted his teeth. All of the pain and humiliation, which were still too fresh to talk about, made his heart beat faster and his rage come to bear. “You lying…drama queen! You bitch!” He ripped the photo from its frame and after he tore it into a dozen or so pieces, he tossed it into the trash.

Our first major snowstorm has struck…now to get outside and make snow sculptures!  What do you do when snow hits?

I’m posting again from This Time Around (which is a rework of Refugees which is the sequel to For the Heart of Phillip). Drama was everywhere in the first book; but it’s been tamed in this volume, which follows Robert and David’s journey after things didn’t go as planned in book one.

FYI: The scene from last week mentions Robert’s father, Mark, had gone after Phillip.  This scene is played out in the book prior to this, For the Heart of Phillip.

To set the stage: (spoiler alert)!!! In the first book, Robert and Phillip break up and David and Andrew break up.

We continue this week with the focus on Robert and what he does after he left Phillip. Robert’s father, Mark, had gone after Phillip, leaving Robert in his mother Cassie’s care. This completes the scene.

His mother rubbed his arms. “Anything I can do?”

“No, Mom. Thanks. I’ll be alright. Got a lot of unpacking to do. Go be with that adorable little brother of mine.”

She pursed her lips and kissed his cheek, leaving a tinge of red behind. “If you’re sure, sweetie. I’m glad you’re home again. Missed you.”

“Missed you too, Mom. Just wish this whole thing wouldn’t have happened. I should’ve spared myself.”

They both nodded. Cassie walked out the door and Robert turned to face his task of unpacking.

Not long after he tore into his task, a car door slammed outside. Flustered, Robert met his father at the front door. “Why did you do that? I can stand up for myself!”

“Really? What he needed was to get a right hook in the jaw! No one treats my son like that. I don’t care how old you are.”

He knew his father’s heart was in the right place, even if his sense wasn’t. He sighed and ran his fingers through his hair. His nerves made him fidget so he shoved his hands into his pockets and cocked his head. “So, what happened there, Dad?”

“Nothing, don’t worry. No one got hurt, as much as I wanted to pound that smug asshole’s face into the floor for you!”

Robert rolled his eyes and groaned. “That wouldn’t have helped. I’m glad you didn’t get arrested!”

“Oh, he knew better than to do that! I’m glad you’re here, boy. You don’t need to be around that family.”

His lower lip trembled and he met his father’s blue eyes. “Thanks, Dad.” He found himself encased in a bear hug.

“We love you, boy. Nobody does that to my son.”

Cassie shut the door, cleared her throat and joined the hug. “I agree. Come on, it’s time for dinner.”

So far 2019 is turning out to be a challenge…but I’m up for it!

She nodded and looked up into his eyes. “I sure hope you’re right, honey. I know how your father is. If someone’s wronged him or any of us, it’s personal.”

“I know.” He glanced at his luggage on the bed. “Well, better get unpacking. No way will Phillip change his mind and invite me back. He’s probably over at Andrew’s right now, making up with him.” His eyes teared up, but he haughtily brushed them away.

New Year!

It’s a fresh new year and full of possibilities (and decisions to be made).

My day job is not very fulfilling, but pays the bills. So my hobbies fill in the gaps 🙂

Here’s a rundown of what was accomplished :

Ice Fairy 3, Cid, This Time Around, Upstaged 3, Complications, and re-released Love by the Numbers. Plus work on other new projects and rewrites

I knit four cushion covers, two cat blankets, five washcloths, and a sawtooth shawl!

I painted about four paintings (mostly for family).

Here’s a smidgen of what I did:

So what’s shakin for this year? Rewrites, more paintings, but cutting back on the knitting. My job takes my hand strength and the only options are PT, or a cortisone shot. Oy. We’ll see what else I can do.

Plus, a HUGE thank you to everyone who’s joined this blog since I moved it over here to WordPress. I plan to post a lot more in the new year and change up the content, so stay tuned!

What’s shakin’ for your 2019?

Steph

Promises to myself

Hello all! I hope this weekend is starting off great for you. If not I hope it will 🙂

In the spirit of the ending 2018, I am making my list of tasks, dreams and goals. I’m calling them promises to myself.

Wow do I need goals. This year wasn’t the best by a long shot. Chronic pain, horrible job, and anxiety through the roof. On the flip side, however, I released Cid, Ice Fairy 3, Upstaged 3, and This Time Around. Plus restarted this blog and have gone from 12 to nearly 90 followers since July.

So…my list of promises include:

limit TV time (under an hour)

knit daily (if no hand pain)

paint daily (if no hand pain)

finish two rewrites

finish two new books

by year end have marketing outsourced

savor my family moments

eat better

Thats a partial list for me. How about you?

What are your promises to yourself?

Where did 2018 go? The first part of this year was slower than a snail in frozen molasses. The second half? Flew by!  In just a couple of days we’ll be welcoming in 2019. I hope it’s a fair sight better than the old year.

I’m posting again from This Time Around (which is a rework of Refugees which is the sequel to For the Heart of Phillip). Drama was everywhere in the first book; but it’s been tamed in this volume, which follows Robert and David’s journey after things didn’t go as planned in book one.

To set the stage: (spoiler alert)!!! In the first book, Robert and Phillip break up and David and Andrew break up.

We continue this week with the focus on Robert and what he does after he left Phillip:

Robert and Cassie sat in Robert’s old room together. She held him while he sobbed and spoke of what might’ve been with the man he’d hoped would be the love of his life. He also told her of how guilty he felt for what he’d done to Cleve.

Cassie calmed her son—she merely held him and listened, as they waited patiently for Mark to come to his senses and return home.

A tense hour went by while they waited. They knew he had quite the temper and had a tendency to be a complete control freak. Cassie wrung her hands constantly with worry. He noticed and grabbed them.

“Mom, relax. He won’t hurt anyone. He’s probably just really mad that Phillip didn’t keep his promise. To me or to him. I’m sure he’ll be back shortly.”

How did December go by so fast? Goodness! I know…by working my tail off during the day and resting as much as possible at night. LOL  I’m pretty ready for the holidays…I have family coming in and my best friend is coming over too. Time to roll out that welcome mat 🙂

To set the stage: (spoiler alert)!!! In the first book, Robert and Phillip break up and David and Andrew break up.

We continue this week with the focus on Robert and what he does after he left Phillip:

He played the scenes over and over in his mind—how the shit had hit the fan when Cleve had found him and Phillip together, when he and Phillip had tried to make love but couldn’t make it happen, and finally when he’d called it quits and left.

Going back to an empty apartment wasn’t what he’d needed, so he’d gone to his parents’ home to bask in the comfort of his family—his parents, his twin sister, and his toddler brother, Luke.

His mother, Cassie, was always there with hugs and kisses. She could be a bit smothering, but right now he welcomed it. He couldn’t wait to be in her arms and hear her soothing voice.

The moment Robert arrived home, his father, Mark blew a gasket. The family attempted to stop him, but there was no calming down the hot-headed patriarch. He bolted out the door and drove off to the Marnier household to face down Phillip and admonish him for breaking his son’s heart for a second time.

To set the stage: (spoiler alert)!!! In the first book, Robert and Phillip break up and David and Andrew break up.

Last week was the end of the heartbreaking opener where David finds his “Dear David” letter.  This week focuses on Robert and what he does after he left Phillip:

Twenty-six-year-old congressional aide, Robert Marshall was, once again, heartbroken. What was worse, was that it was the same man who’d broken his heart before; he’d let it happen again. He’d just left the man he loved more than anything, Phillip Marnier. They’d lived together for months, and had been together; but the feelings weren’t mutual.

It was more than obvious Phillip was still in love with his husband, Andrew. Robert beat himself up for even trying to get back with his first-ever boyfriend, especially as things had been complicated immensely by the fact he himself had been married at the time.

This Time Around 1

To set the stage: (spoiler alert)!!! In the first book, Robert and Phillip break up and David and Andrew break up.

Last week David saw the brief note from Andrew saying goodbye. This is the last part of the opening scene:

It was all too clear now. Andrew was gone, as was Andrea. He shook his head, unwilling to believe this was the end! David darted from room to room and saw that all of Andrew and Andrea’s belongings were gone too. It was, indeed, over. David clenched his jaw tightly as he crumpled the note in his hand. His knees buckled and he crumpled to the floor, sitting like a stunned animal. His eyes watered, but he angrily wiped the tears away. It was a feeble effort; they kept refilling.

“You… prick! You…”

David grabbed his cell phone and began to dial, but his thumb hovered above the “send” button. His hand shook as he stared at the number. Finally, he hit “cancel”. What am I gonna do? Yell at him? Threaten him? Beg him to come back?  He leaned back and shut his eyes, his mind a whirlwind of memories from the past few months. All the sex, the dinners, the fun with little Andrea in the backyard. All dissolved right before his eyes. What the hell went wrong? It has to be Phillip! Dammit! He went back home to his precious Philly. How nice of him to leave me in the damn dust!

David slowly opened the hand which held the ring, and let it fall to the floor. He gritted his teeth as a wave of anger swept over him like a tsunami, and he hurled the crumpled note furiously into the living room. It landed on the love seat. The same love seat where Andrew had sat in a dazed stupor for hours on the night he and his husband Phillip had broken up. It was also the place where little Andrea would sit during movie night, and where David and Andrew would make out before heading back to their bedroom. Now, it was all just a memory…
