Are you going crazy yet? What day of isolation and social distancing are you on? For me it’s the end of my first week of working from home since 2016 and it was a light load, so I got a lot of house things done 🙂 My kitty loved the company too.

What do you think the world, the market, and people in general will be like once this is all over?

Good news…I’ve started on my end of edits on Upstaged 5 🙂

This week I’m sticking with one of my older works again which was formerly “Refugees” but was re-named “This Time Around”. Skipping a few non-essential lines to get to the crux of the tale.

Can two lonely souls finally get a second chance on getting it right?

Robert can’t believe this has happened again. His heart is in tatters, all because of his once-again ex. Out of pure frustration, he takes matters into his own hands and gives boxing a try. All he gains is an injured hand, which needs the attention of a physical therapist.

David is overwhelmed and his heart is in denial over the sudden departure of the man he was in love with. As he tries to piece his life back together, a patient needing therapy walks into his clinic and the attraction is immediate; but the desire is not.

Can these two finally find a good relationship that will last and work this time around?

“Naw, you love it too much. You liked working at that modeling shoot well enough. That is, until you met Andrew there.” Why’d he mention his name? David shook his head. “It started out well for one night. How quickly things fell apart from there, didn’t they? I had no clue what I was walking into.”

Four days later, their appointment arrived. Robert had to wait this time; there was another patient saying goodbye. She was a young girl of maybe sixteen. She walked past him in the lobby and smiled at him.

David finally acknowledged his favorite patient and they walked to an exam table. “Hey, how are you tonight?”

“I’m good, thanks. Um, full disclosure, I wanted to apologize, I don’t want to pry. Your life is your business.”

I wish I could just tell him.  “Stop, it’s my fault for being approachable as a snake. I’m sorry too. I thought about you over the weekend and about my situation and how it’s affected me. I get a lot of thinking time, being alone again.” God, he was lonesome.

David’s about to burst…I think they both are.

Howdy from isolation. Illinois is under a lockdown so no going out unless essential. Wow. For a near hermit like me I feel like I’ve been training for this my whole life 🙂 I have plenty to keep me busy on the inside, plus working is now OK with me being at home. Win-win!

How are you holding up during these mad times? Got enough toilet paper? Tissues will do in a pinch, fyi. We went out to Target yesterday and got gas. That’s been the end of my exposure for the whole week. Now to make a decent schedule and get some of these overdue projects done.

A longer snippet this week. David’s boss and bff checks up on him.

Robert looked up and smiled. David did the same. “I accept. Let’s just get me better so it doesn’t hurt like a bitch to type anymore.”

David nodded. “I’ll do my best.”

After Robert left for the night, David ran his fingers through his hair and shuffled into his office. He finally realized how Spartan and cold it was. It had no real style at all. “Damn. I think this place looks worse than I feel. It needs some panache.”

He was interrupted by the phone ringing. He punched the “line 1” button and picked up. “Hello?”

It was Cal. “David? How’s it going, kiddo?”

“Hiya, buddy. How are things?”

“I was gonna ask you that. How are things in the dead zone?”

David paused. “They’re alright. I have one patient who’s got some issues. He keeps asking me about mine, too.”

“Oh? What’s he asking about?”

“About me, my personal life.”

Cal laughed. “Well, it’s as plain as day that something’s eatin’ at ya. I’m sure he can sense it.”

“Yeah. I’m sure he can. He seems like a good enough guy though. I think he has his own issues too.”

“Is he hot?”

Crimony, really? “Cal! Lil fucker, of course he’s hot but I can’t even think of that. Damn, I’m so hurt I’m thinking of joining the monastery!” The two laughed.

“Naw, you love it too much. You liked working at that modeling shoot well enough. That is, until you met Andrew there.” Why’d he mention his name? Friends really know how to hit the jugular, huh? It was all true though. 😦

Happy Sunday! Are you following your distance protocols? Hand washing? Hoarding toilet paper? Oy vey!

The whole world is off its rocker with this imho. I’d love to know where it started and why it has us in such a frenzy.

On a much, much better note…my kitty’s bday is today! His sweet sixteen. He’s lived through over six years of shots, and now 18 months of liquid meds; and still going strong. Happy bday my love!

Robert tilted his head and pursed his lips. He rolled his eyes and sighed. “Ah, king of denial. How well do I know how that goes.”

David glared at his patient and Robert’s breath hitched. He saw frustration in David’s gorgeous emerald green eyes, but a deep pain that no one could touch. They had both been through torture. “Let’s just get on with this. You have exercises to learn.”

“Bullshit. I learned them a long time ago, remember? If you wanna clam up and just play cold fish, fine. Continue to suffer in silence.” Robert looked away from him, then down at his injured hand. After what seemed like the longest minute ever, he spoke again. “I’m sorry, I just…I know something is bothering you and I like you, David. But…I’ll stop pushing.”

The tone cut David to the core and tugged at his heartstrings. He was being a cruel bastard to someone who just wanted to listen. That was all. David smoothed his skilled hands over his patient’s arm. “Robert, I’m sorry… it’s just been a really horrible month for me. Can you forgive me?”

Robert looked up and smiled. David did the same. “I accept. Let’s just get me better so it doesn’t hurt like a bitch to type anymore.”

David nodded. “I’ll do my best.”

A sweet moment between the therapist and patient…can they be good friends?

Social Distancing Amid Coronavirus Fears…

I saw this article pop up today and it talks about social distancing to avoid the spread of this virus.

https://www.huffpost.com/entry/social-distancing-places-to-avoid-coronavirus_l_5e6bee6cc5b6dda30fc8e6f0

I’m a homebody and that’s a very good thing at the moment. Plus I convinced my elder family members to have small gatherings at home vs at a restaurant where people have this virus, colds, flu, pneumonia, etc.

My brother called me an alarmist at first, but after the pandemic was designated; he agreed with me.

What are you doing to hunker down in this crazy time?
As for me and mine…we have toilet paper and food, and avoiding touching our faces. We have soap and sanitizer gel too. If we do get it, quarantine is the only way to not spread it.
I hope very much we will have a vaccine soon and put a halt to this.

Spring fever abounds today, and after yesterday’s killer migraine…all is well again.

Did you remember to spring forward on your clocks? We got most of ours; but some we just let slide.

This past week work has dominated my world; more, what I want it to become. At my age I have two options: keep playing minimum effort and have a horrid retirement called death…or brush up some skills, get promoted, work my arse off for a decade, then retire nicely to a writing shed.

I chose the latter 🙂

Where does your day job lie in your world? A necessary evil? or something you actually don’t mind?

“I’m hanging in there.” Well, at least he was attempting to. “Have a seat and we’ll fix you up.”

Their session began and Robert winced a little during his exercises. “Ow…right there.” He pointed to his ring finger. “I think I messed it up at home.”

“Well here, let’s work that out.” He worked his magic and massaged the hand as best he knew how. He liked Robert and didn’t want his patients to feel any pain that they didn’t need, to get better.

“So…” Robert mumbled. “What’s your story?”

David paused his massage. “Not much to tell. Always a groomsman and never a groom. Well, I was once, but it was a long time ago.”

“I’m sorry. Can I ask what happened?”

Could this be where he finally started to open up? David hesitated and wanted to say something, but after a very long moment, he shook his head and continued working on Robert’s hand.

“Sorry, I don’t talk about my private life much. I poured out my soul to my ex. He threw it in the fire. I won’t go through that again. I barely know you. We should just keep things professional.”

“David, please. I’m not him. Please, I’m here for you too, ok? Who made you feel like this? I can tell it’s eating you alive. Just…I’ve confided in you. I want to return the favor.”

There was a long silence as David looked over Robert’s shoulder into his office.

After a few seconds, David looked at his patient again. “Look, let’s get on with your

session, shall we?”

 “David, please…”

“No. I’m not discussing it. Never happened,” he muttered.

Robert tilted his head and pursed his lips. He rolled his eyes and sighed. “Ah, king of denial. How well do I know how that goes.”

David must realize that not talking about it will solve his broken heart. Robert has two adorable ears…he should lean in closer and use them.

Happy sunny Sunday again! It’s a drop-dead gorgeous day outside and I feel a touch of spring fever for sure.

This past week has been busy at work, but the weekend afforded family time; which I adore more than just about anything.

Relieved, Robert grinned and they finished up the appointment. “See you in two days?”

“Yep. See you then.”

Two days later:

Tonight David was stressed out. He’d found a few texts still left on his phone from Andy. He didn’t want to delete them. He wanted to hope he had a chance; but he knew that was about as possible as him sprouting wings and flying out the window on a whim. His ex was gone. For good.

When Robert arrived, his demeanor brightened and he greeted his favorite patient with a bright smile.

“Hey, how do you feel tonight?”

“Not too good; it’s really bugging me today. You?”

“I’m hanging in there.” Well, at least he was attempting to. “Have a seat and we’ll fix you up.”

Robert has had quite the jagged history with dear Phillip, hasn’t he? Oh my….can two days pass fast enough?
