Oy…flu has struck our household! Hubby coughing, fever, chills, aches. The works. Tamiflu not much of a help, so on Mucinex DM, rest, water, etc. Please send him good juju and pray I don’t get this horrid virus.

Otherwise, work fine, life fine, drumming good. All else falls away when my beloved is ill.

Can two lonely souls finally get a second chance on getting it right?

Robert can’t believe this has happened again. His heart is in tatters, all because of his once-again ex. Out of pure frustration, he takes matters into his own hands and gives boxing a try. All he gains is an injured hand, which needs the attention of a physical therapist.

David is overwhelmed and his heart is in denial over the sudden departure of the man he was in love with. As he tries to piece his life back together, a patient needing therapy walks into his clinic and the attraction is immediate; but the desire is not.

Can these two finally find a good relationship that will last and work this time around?

David clapped Robert’s shoulder. “Hey, no worries. That’s good for the first time! You sprained your hand pretty bad; it’ll take a while to heal the damage.

“I should charge all of this to Phillip. Fucker. He pissed me off.

“Keep trying and every day it’ll get easier, ok?” David finished with a grin. “Now, let’s get to your exercises.”

Robert nodded and put the putty back into its container. He picked up the sheets of exercises and looked them over. “Let’s do it.”

After their session was finished, Robert felt better; at least on the outside. David was very attractive, kind, gentle, and a little funny. They’d cracked a couple of one-liners but beyond that there wasn’t much conversation. He missed it.

“Two days?” Robert asked as he hopped down from the table.

David nodded. “Yes. I’ll see you then, ok?”

“Yeah.” He didn’t want to go home just yet. “I…thanks.” He looked into the beautiful eyes of his therapist and smiled at him. “This helped.”

“That’s why I do this. I love to help people feel better. Take care, Robert.”

“You too, David.” He made himself gather the therapy items and walk out the door.

Trivia tidbit:

In 1998 I was in physical therapy for my knees. The PT was named David. He wasn’t nearly as hot as this David, but he was a very patient and nice guy.

Happy Sunday! I’m in the middle of my long weekend (have tomorrow off for MLK day). Work is fine, and family is too. I’ve been singeing on kitty time, gaming, Hulu, some hubby time, and drumming.

The weather was a little crazy Friday but we missed the big part of the worst of it. Whew! It could’ve been a very nasty ice storm. I’ve had enough of those for one lifetime!

In other news, I’ve started a new story and have a few others that just need a few more chapters until they’re ready for the red ink of the editor. Wish me luck!

David cocked a brow. “Oh? Things a little stressful in your day job?”

“Just a little.”

“Let’s get those tendons soothed. I’ll be right back.” David left and Robert sighed. He kept his hand elevated and his lips sealed. His heart was broken and his mind was a muddled mess.

After a long couple of minutes, David returned with several sheets of paper and a small pack of colorful putty. It was bright green and looked like the dough he’d play with as a child. He had a memory of pushing Serena’s face into a large puddle of it and laughing his ass off.

“What’s this?” he asked.

David put the papers down. “These are your exercises, which I want you to do every night for a week.” He held up the container. “This is therapy putty. It starts out soft but as your hand gets stronger I’ll change it out for tougher putty.”

Robert eyed the green goo. “What do I do with it?”

“I’ll show you.” David took it out of the container and rolled it into a ball. “Here, put this in the palm of your hand and press each finger into it one at a time.”

His curiosity piqued, Robert did as instructed and he smushed the ball into his hand. It felt cool and soft but wasn’t gooey at all; for which he was very grateful. He bent his index finger into the putty and made a small indent.

“Good! Now the middle finger.”

He strained a little and found he had to grit his teeth and close his eyes to try to concentrate harder. He made a tiny indent. After he opened his eyes, Robert groaned. “Damn.”

David clapped Robert’s shoulder. “Hey, no worries. That’s good for the first time! You sprained your hand pretty bad; it’ll take a while to heal the damage.”

We are still fresh into the new year and now my job is kicking into higher gear. For those who don’t know, I work in the accounting field. I’m not a CPA, but there are other items that occur only at year-end (like 1099’s) that need to be done and are a big time commitment.

In other news, medically I’ve filled up about the first four months of the year with some sort of appointment or the other. Eyes, GP, ears…oy. The list could be huge given the gamut of specialists out there. Luckily, I don’t need that many. (yet).

Drumming is a workout for my arms and my recently-wounded shoulder. I take it a little easy when going after the floor tom or ride cymbal, but so far so good. 🙂

Robert smiled lightly. “See you then. Good night, David.”

“Night.”

Two days later, Robert showed up right on time. Again, it was quiet as a tomb. He rapped on the glass door. “David? I’m here. It’s Robert.”

“Oh, hey. How ya doing? How are the fingers?”

“They hurt pretty bad tonight. Had to do a fair share of typing today and it’s not easy one-handed.”

David directed him to a therapy bed; Robert sat down. “Let’s see what we can do for that.”

What a difference two days made. His therapist sounded more human already and he’d lay odds he felt a little better from whatever was eating at his soul the other night. Robert took in David’s appearance again. He looked far more attractive than he did that first night. His hair wasn’t mussed, he was clean-shaven, and he looked awake. David held Robert’s hands gently. He was a real pro. Robert found the smoothness of the therapist’s hands soothing. Robert opened his mouth and was about to ask a question, but David cut him off.

“So, how are you tonight?”

“I’m good. A little worn out from work. You?”

“Not bad, actually. Thanks.” He examined Robert’s fingers. “Can you do this?” He demonstrated flexing all five fingers.

Robert tried his best as he strained to make the injured fingers move like he wanted, but had no luck. “No. Not yet I guess.”

“It’s alright. We’ll get you fixed up.” He smiled a little and Robert felt more at ease.

“I hope so. At least one part of my life can be fixed up.” He didn’t want to spill his guts to a total stranger but he kinda saw David as a bartender at the moment. He was an ear anyway.

David cocked a brow. “Oh? Things a little stressful in your day job?”

“Just a little.”

Wow, it’s still very strange to type ‘2020’. I’m still waiting on the flying cars, jetpacks, and Rosie the robot to do all the cooking and cleaning. LOL. How was your New Years? Ours was quiet…as neither my hubby or myself stayed up past 10 pm.

So now with this new year upon us, I’m filling up my calendar with all of the necessary medical items that a woman my age must do (groan). Work is fine, and the rest of my life is pretty stable; so let’s pray for another boring year (medically).

“Well, I think we’ll be working together awhile. Maybe later?” Robert offered.

David shrugged. “Yeah. Later.”

The exam continued at a snail’s pace. Robert’s fingers on his left hand were badly sprained; he couldn’t make a fist at all. David recommended at least three to six weeks’ worth of therapy and to make at least two appointments per week. Robert smiled to himself and tried to keep the visit going; but David snapped up his clipboard and waved him down. The evaluation was over.

David walked to his computer to set up the next session. “This time good for you?”

“Yeah, I don’t work late. What day do you have open?”

David paged through a couple of screens and finally answered. “Two days from now, how’s that?”

“Fine with me.”

“Well, we’re done for tonight. Take it easy until then. See you in two days.”

Robert smiled lightly. “See you then. Good night, David.”“Night.”

Not the best table-side manner; but if you were David, can you blame him?
