Let the countdown commence…

It’s official; in just a few days from now I return to the working world.

It’s time to set up deadlines for myself so that my remaining reworks (and new works) will be out in a timely fashion.

My goal right now is to finish a new story by Valentine’s Day; and then have a rework finished once a quarter (every three months).

Now, the question for my readers out there; how close together is too close? Once a year, a month, a week?

I’d love to write a serial and try our Patreon or maybe a donation only gift?

Let me know your thoughts!

Steph

How was your turkey day? I hope it was gobblefabulous! Mine was nice; we went to see my side of the family 🙂

I’m posting again from This Time Around (which is a rework of Refugees which is the sequel to For the Heart of Phillip). Drama was everywhere in the first book; but it’s been tamed in this volume, which follows Robert and David’s journey after things didn’t go as planned in book one.

I hope you enjoy! This book is out now on Amazon 🙂

What is Rainbow Snippets? It’s a group of LGBT+ authors who post six sentences (or more) from a current WIP, published work or even something they’ve read that they want to rave about. To set the stage: (spoiler alert)!!! In the first book, Robert and Phillip break up and David and Andrew break up.

This is David coming home to find out that Andrew has left him:

The only thing David wanted right now was to have a nice, normal conversation about where they were headed as a couple. Was it over or would Andrew finally accept the marriage proposal that sat on the table?

While all of these thoughts swirled in his mind, David noticed a glaring incongruity; notably, that Andrew’s van was gone. He glanced at the time again—9:05 pm. He bit his lip in thought. It was unusual for Andrew to be out so late without letting him know. He frowned and scratched at his blond hair. Maybe he’s visiting his folks. Yes, that’s it. Maybe Janet and Tyler can talk some common sense into him. Marrying me is the best choice for him, not going back to that jackass.

He shrugged off his doubts, and exited his car. The warm evening air was rich with moisture. There would be a storm soon. His body had started to sweat, even in just his minimal outfit of scrubs, as he looked over his shoulder towards the street. Something nagged at him to look in the mailbox. He trudged down to the curb and saw that the day’s mail was still inside. Maybe he left to get Andrea before it came.  He dismissed that as well and collected what was inside.

David didn’t even notice that all of the lights in the house were off, save for the garden lights, which were on their own timer. He yawned as he unlocked the door, and when he finished and turned the knob it creaked open, revealing the pitch-black house. He quickly turned on the foyer light, looked around the corner into the kitchen and plunked the mail on the counter.

Early Present! This Time Around now available…

I’m a bit embarrassed…lol. I have Amazon KDP and used the old Refugees slot…well, that book dated back to 2011. So I couldn’t set up a pre-release…long story short, This Time Around is available now for 99 cents!

For less than a can of cranberry sauce or a box of stuffing mix, you can enjoy this redone tale of how Robert and David survive in the aftermath of ‘For the Heart of Phillip’ (book 1)

5 Ways to Give Back as Reader

Terrific ideas in here 🙂 One of the things that got me to love reading was being read to at the library storytime hour.

Lit Lemon Books

It is the giving season and I, like many others, like to give a little more during this time of year. How can you do that as a reader? Easy! Read my list below~

1. Volunteer to Read

How so? Your local library probably has a read aloud program for children. Volunteer to read once or twice. If not at your local library, try a hospital or clinic. Don’t limit yourself to reading to children, nursing homes have volunteer programs as well.

2. Volunteer in General

Volunteering is something special everyone can do. You are giving something that is priceless, your time. I have volunteered at libraries, food shelters, and coached youth sports. The possibilities are endless when it comes to volunteering: pet shelters, schools, libraries, hospitals, nursing homes, child care. Don’t be afraid to give your time this holiday season.

3. Donate your books

There are many children, teens…

Pun Of The Weak: Dating

I’m using this the next time I’m asked for a clean joke 🙂

Learn Fun Facts

pun-of-the-weak

Two elderly gentlemen were shooting the breeze. “I guess you’re never too old,” the first one boasted. “Why just yesterday a pretty college girl said she’d be interested in dating me. But to be perfectly honest, I don’t quite understand it.”

“Well,” said his friend, “you have to remember that nowadays women are more aggressive. They don’t mind being the one to ask.”

“No, I don’t think it’s that.”

“Well, maybe you remind her of her father.”

“No, it’s not that either. It’s just that she also mentioned something about carbon 14.”

To set the stage: (spoiler alert)!!! In the first book, Robert and Phillip break up and David and Andrew break up.

This is David coming home to find out that Andrew has left him:

David had done his best to nurse his lover, as had Andrew’s five-year-old daughter, Andrea. She’d barely left his side. There had still been no “yes” or “no” to the proposal question, however. David knew why, too. It was just as he’d feared this entire time. It was painfully clear that Andrew still had deep feelings for his ex-husband, Phillip.

David remembered that night, the previous February, when Andrew had come to live with him. The break-up with Phillip had been emotional, and Andrew had come to him late at night, crying, freezing, and in shock. David had known from the start that the relationship would be fraught with regret, but he dove in full-force anyway, out of sheer loneliness.

Your Stories Will Outlive You. Give Them All You’ve Got.

I want people years after my death to find my tales and enjoy them. I leave no children except my characters.

Novelty Revisions

I don’t know about you. But I think a lot about the fact that I will not be here forever.

Not that I plan on going anywhere anytime soon. I have stuff to do.

But (uh, probably thanks to John Green) I spend a little time each day thinking about human mortality. And I spend a lot more time than that wondering if the things I am doing with my moments really matter. Especially when it comes to my writing.

I think it’s safe to say at this point that I’ve spent the majority of my life wanting to be a writer. The exact logistics of what that has meant for me personally have changed many times. But I have always been drawn to storytelling. It has always ignited a very powerful fire inside me.

But I am not immune to the usual tribulations of the creative arts. I doubt…
