31 Day Blog Challenge Day 2

A photo of myself from five years ago and one now…what’s changed?

Well, I don’t post pix of myself, so here’s one of my kitty, Jack.

Five years ago he was 23 lbs, but then diminished to 14 lbs quickly! He was diagnosed as diabetic.

Five years later….here he is, doing well, and still kicking at 14 1/2 years old 🙂

31 Day Blog Challenge Day 1

Yay! I love these blog challenges; they make me think of items that I haven’t before (or in a very long time).

Day 1:  Your favorite song right now:

Drop Dead Beautiful by Britney Spears

I know, the pop princess strikes again, but I caught wind of it while looking for Coran videos (yes, I’m a total fangirl of the gorgeous man from Voltron; Legendary Defender)

It’s a total earworm for me now…so I’ll share this..from her Femme Fatale album

as a bonus; here’s what inspired it:

Coming December 1st…This Time Around

This Time Around Blurb

This is the sequel to ‘For the Heart of Phillip’. This book was called ‘Refugees’ but this re-release has been edited, a new cover, and a new title. The outcome is the same (for any Refugees fans out there)…

I’m excited to present this and hope you pick up a copy and love it!

*Sniff*! The last of the Cid snippets! 😦

From my newest release: Cid.  Here is the blurb:

Ask 26-year-old artist Cid Walker how he’s feeling and you’ll likely get a snarl, or a glare, but not a real answer. Cid’s soul is so damaged from a brutal and savage ex-fiancé that trusting anyone is out of the question.

Two classmates try to get his attention; Barry and Kellen. Barry is only 18 and a very naïve, sweet boy-next-door type who is young, needy, and anxious to get involved with the mysterious artist. He wants to be with Cid more than anything, but his efforts fail.

Kellen, all of 22, is as snarky as Cid is at first, but soon manages to get across to him. Kellen understands why Cid is acting out because Kellen is also keeping his soul and psyche intact with mere Band-Aids after being attacked a few years ago.

Add in a stalker that won’t take ‘no’ for an answer and you have Cid’s life at the moment. Who can get through his broken heart?

We pick up things with Cid and Barry’s coffee ‘date’. Here is a loooong snippet to finish both the ‘date’ and the chapter. I hope you enjoyed these snippets and want to read more 🙂

“What medium?”

“Oil mostly. Some acrylic.” Cid glanced around and pointed to a work propped up behind his bed. “That one is my favorite. At least this week.”

Barry walked over to the artwork. It was a landscape scene, with trees in their full color autumn splendor with a mountain in the background. The sky was clear blue and there was a lake lapping at the base of the trees.

“Wow. That is really beautiful!” he started to reach his hand out, but pulled it away at the last second. “Sorry, it just looks so real. Like you want to jump in there and camp out.”

That sounded pretty appealing actually, though Cid just liked to prop up his easel and paint outside.

“I’ve never been camping,” he admitted.

Barry’s eyes widened. “Never? Oh, you’re missing out. The smell of the trees, the clean air, the scenery. Plus cooking on an open fire and watching the stars at night while sitting at a fire. You feel like the whole world is just you, or you and your friends. The forest sounds of the crickets chirping and the hooting owls lull you to sleep or especially the crackle of a fire while roasting marshmallows. Ahhh, I miss it. You should really go sometime.”

The way that his new friend described it made Cid want to go. He’d chosen the right major for sure if he could be this persuasive and evocative in all his dealings. He took a big swig of coffee when he discovered his throat was dry.

“Maybe so.”

“Yeah. Maybe by summertime?” Barry sounded like he was asking a question, but Cid had no desire to answer.

“We’ll see I guess.” He shrugged.

“Yeah. I hope we will.” Barry spoke softly, his blue eyes firmly on Cid.

The rest of the afternoon got better as they discussed paintings and problem professors. For once, Cid was not anxious for Barry to leave.

“See you in class, Cid.”

“Yeah, definitely.”

Barry reached out his hand and Cid assumed it was for another handshake, but he found himself pulled into a side hug; albeit a clumsy one. Human contact.

He backed away first and patted Barry’s shoulder. “Have a good night.”

“Yeah, you too.” Barry pursed his lips and turned to leave.

Cid shut the door slowly and let out a long sigh of relief. His mind was filled with visions and thoughts that he didn’t want to let himself think about ever again.

They were all of Barry.

Favorite Fridays

ts3

Wow, I got behind! Sorry for that…life interferes at times.  Onward!

Favorite…I have so many of them 🙂 I could list foods or fabrics…but today I’ll list my other favorite hobby: gaming.

I love games. Ever since Atari appeared when I was very young; I was hooked!  Today, when I find the hours, I spend it with my Sims. The Sims is a ‘sim’ulation game where you control people, build their houses, spawn families, etc. etc. It came around in 2000 and I got wind of it and have had every rendition since. (except The Sims 4, which I can’t afford yet, but here’s hoping)!

What are your favorite hobbies and fun go-to items?

We pick up things with Cid and Barry’s coffee ‘date’. Things weren’t going too well. Let’s see if it gets any better:

“Awesome.” Barry smiled. “Great coffee by the way. Where do you get it? I’ve never seen this brand.”

“Back home. I buy up a ton of it when I go back on break or my friends send me some to tide me over when I’m broke, which is now.” He laughed a little and the tension in the room dissipated.

“Oh man, don’t I know it. My folks are shelling out big bucks for me to be here; but I think it’s all worth it. I get to meet new friends like you and pursue my love of business at the same time.”

Cid nodded. “So what got you to major in business?” He couldn’t fathom a subject so dull.

“I love it. I love the whole business world, building your own business, running it, having great people work for you.”

“So, an entrepreneur?” Cid guessed.

“Mostly. I wanna get my feet wet first and think of what they haven’t yet.”

That sounded kinda cool actually.

“So, what about you?” Barry asked.

“Art major.” Cid answered. “Painting mostly, some sketching too.”

Barry grinned. “Very cool! I barely do stick figures. I did my best work on the computer, but that was just playing around.” He looked around the room. “Are these all yours?”

There were paintings strewn around the small dorm room, tucked behind the bed, propped up on the windowsill, and perched above the dresser.

“Every one of them.”

Battling depression and doubt

As I write this, I should be finishing up the edits on a re-release of mine. Note I said “should-be”. I should also be creating the paintings I’ve been yammering about for months, knitting for my family and kitty, plus volunteer shelter knitting…plus 100 other little things that I just haven’t the energy or motivation to dive into.

Sound familiar?

This is all too common for me lately though I have my good days where I kill it with the edits; but the comments make me doubt my own writing. “This sucks! Why did I write it this badly?” kind of moments are constant.

Then there’s all the other things I want to do beyond crafts like job-hunt (a need not a want)…visit family, play games, etc. etc.  No mojo means no go.

Sigh.

My hubby is old school and says to just ‘force myself’. That doesn’t work for me. He’s never understood what depression really does to a person. So no, forcing it doesn’t help.

My parents are also no help (but I love them dearly) to where it’s the ‘pull yourself up by your bootstraps” mentality…just fine from folks who grew up in THE depression. Not so valid now.

So…what to do?

Well, I write it out. I’m a writer, it’s what I do. I’ve filled over four pages so far with thoughts on the issues; but no real solutions come to mind. I just don’t want to get out of bed in the morning. Short of hiring Chewbacca or a droid to assist me with that; not gonna happen so easily.

(Though if Coran came in I’d consider it). LOL

OK jokes aside, how do you get going and through your days? I’m finding things going at a snails pace, even slower than that sometimes….what do you do to motivate yourself?

I’d love some advice.

Cheers,

Steph
