Unless you are active on social media like I am, you might not have heard of ‘cockygate’…one author’s attempt to trademark the word ‘cocky’ (and the font she used) for her own purposes, thus thrusting the romance industry into a tailspin.

Not only is it an adjective, but a noun as well (sans the y) and I’ve seen covers redone, reviews threatened, the works!

What is a bright light though, is that the community, we as romance authors of all genres are pulling together and fighting back. No more competition right now, or stabbing each other in the back, gossip, etc.

We are pulling together and supporting each other! That’s the best part of all. I personally have assisted fledgling authors, and gotten a TON of advice on my website, covers, etc. It’s a good feeling!

Now, to keep this going, and I know it’s tough, but I personally am making a concerted effort daily to be either helpful, social in a nice way, review others books or critique helpfully, or just buy the books! That’s how the ideal of Romancelandia. 🙂

We can do this!

Cheer, Steph
